Attendance boundaries approved for 2026-2027
To best balance student populations for the year with the opening of three new schools and continued rapid enrollment growth, Northwest ISD has finalized attendance boundaries for the 2026-2027 school year.
Boundaries are now in place for Romer Elementary School and Barksdale Middle School, both of which will open in August 2026. Additionally, Northwest ISD has made boundary adjustments to balance student populations between Adams and Worthington middle schools.
Final boundary changes include:
- Romer Elementary School: Creating a new elementary school boundary for Romer Elementary School by providing relief for Carter and Prairie View elementary schools.
- Barksdale Middle School: Creating a new middle school boundary for Barksdale Middle School by providing relief for Medlin and Pike middle schools. All of Daniel and Lance Thompson elementary school zones will feed into Barksdale Middle School, as will a portion of the Justin Elementary School zone.
- Pike Middle School: To best balance middle school enrollment following the opening of Barksdale Middle School, a portion of Chisholm Trail Middle School boundaries have shifted to Pike Middle School. This includes all of the Hatfield Elementary School zone and a portion of the Perrin Elementary School zone.
- Adams Middle School: Shifting Berkshire Elementary School to fully feed into Adams Middle School instead of partially feeding into it and Worthington Middle School. Currently, Worthington Middle School is over capacity.
- Future Growth Planning: To prepare for future home development, portions of the Hatfield and Prairie View elementary school boundaries that do not include any current students have shifted.
After receiving input from families at multiple community meetings, Northwest ISD modified the proposal to adjust the following:
- Allow all current sixth-grade students affected by rezoning to remain at their current campus, if desired. Traditionally, only students entering their last year at a campus are allowed to remain if affected by rezoning. (Students who choose to remain will not receive bus transportation, and younger siblings are not included.)
- Keep all of the current Sendera Ranch Elementary School attendance zone intact, removing a proposed portion to be rezoned to the new Romer Elementary School.
- Keep the Lexington Estates area in the Prairie View Elementary School attendance zone instead of rezoning it to Romer Elementary School.
- To best balance enrollment growth in the future, shifting an area that was initially proposed for Romer Elementary School to Carter Elementary School. This area currently has no students.
Students affected by rezoning and entering their fifth-, seventh- or eighth-grade year in 2026-2027 will have the option to stay at their current campus, if desired. Students who choose to remain at their current school will not receive district-provided transportation (except in cases of SPED accommodations), and younger siblings will not be eligible to remain. Northwest ISD will email these families a link to submit a transfer, open from February 1 to 20, to remain at their current school.
Additional information about the rezoning process can be found at www.nisdtx.org/rezoning. An interactive map of 2026-2027 school boundaries is now live at www.nisdtx.org/schoolfinder by selecting the "School Year" drop-down menu in the top left corner.
As one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas, Northwest ISD regularly opens new schools to meet enrollment needs. Attendance boundary adjustments are necessary to create enrollment zones for new campuses as well as balance enrollment at existing campuses to maintain safe and effective learning environments.
