A Note From Mr. D

Greetings Panther Families!

It was a short but wonderful week here at Pike! We’ve already wrapped up our first round of athletic seasons, and basketball is now upon us—a reminder of just how quickly this year is flying by. I’m incredibly proud of the hard work our students have put in so far, which was clearly evident in the large number of students recognized at last week’s awards assembly. Let’s keep that momentum going and continue celebrating their amazing achievements!

This coming week, we’ll honor our veteran family members during a special Veterans Day breakfast hosted by our amazing PTA. It’s a small but meaningful way to pause and say thank you to those who have stepped up to serve our country. On that day, I encourage all students and staff to wear red, white, and blue. During our “Victory Parade” through the building, I want our veterans to be greeted by a sea of patriotism and pride. This has always been one of my favorite days of the year, and I hope every veteran who joins us feels just how deeply we appreciate their service.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything. Our ongoing partnership is what drives our students toward success each and every day.

Until next time....y'all keep on keepin' on, and always KEEP BELIEVING!

Mr. D

Northwest ISD voters approve Prop A for lower class sizes

Preliminary results indicate 11,636 voters, or 51.87%, cast ballots in favor of Proposition A, which is projected to generate $12 million in new operations funding. Northwest ISD plans to use $8 million of this funding on class sizes and student programs, while the remaining $4 million will be used to provide teacher and staff raises. For information about the plan for funding, read this news article.

Veterans Day at Pike

We are proud to honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served our country. On Tuesday, November 11 AT 9:45AM, Pike Middle School will host a special Veterans Day Breakfast to recognize and thank those who have dedicated themselves to protecting our freedom.

We are deeply grateful for the courage, sacrifice, and service of all who have worn our nation’s uniform. We look forward to welcoming our heroes to Pike Middle School on November 11 for a morning of gratitude and celebration.

Pike PTA Thanksgiving Food Drive

Our Pike PTA is hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive to help families right here in our own community! From November 5–14, we’ll be collecting holiday favorites like canned veggies, boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, and more. All items can be dropped off at the Learning Stairs. See the image below for all the food items we are collecting.

To make it fun, the grade with the most donations will win a donut party at lunch on November 21!

Let’s come together to show what Pike Pride and Panther generosity look like this season — every can makes a difference!

The annual Angel Tree program is now open to support Northwest ISD students in need this holiday season! More than 1,300 students are on this Virtual Angel Tree. The Angel Tree allows community members to select an anonymous child to support this holiday season by ensuring they have gifts.

Community members can visit angeltree.nisdtx.org to select a student – or multiple students – to provide gifts. A suggested $150 price point exists for each child. Additionally, community members are invited to volunteer for the Angel Tree program, helping sort and organize gifts and deliveries.

What Do You Want Mr. D to Know?

Thank you for those that have already sent us feedback, both positive and constructive ways we can improve. Keep it coming, as our continued dialogue is how we work together to make the school year positive for all of our Pike Panthers!

Student Drop-off and Pick-Up

A quick reminder that doors open at 8:25AM. There’s no staff supervision before then, and we’re seeing more students being dropped off early—sometimes more than an hour before doors open. Please help us keep everyone safe by dropping off at or after 8:25AM.

All student drop-off and pick-up must happen in the back of the school. The only exceptions are students arriving early for athletics or tutoring. We’ve seen too many cars stopping in the front lately, which creates unsafe conditions while buses are unloading. At 8:50AM when school starts, you may drop your student at the front, as the back doors will be closed and locked.

Mornings in the back run smoothly, but afternoons have become extremely hectic and congested. Please wait until you reach the pick-up zone under the awning before your student gets in the car, and avoid parking in or driving through the staff parking lot. This has our students crossing through traffic which puts them at risk for being hit, which I unfortunately have seen almost happen too many times.

While we may be close to the Texas Motor Speedway, our campus is a school zone—and safe and respectful driving is needed. Please drive slowly, follow the traffic flow, and avoid U-turns or cutting through lanes. We’ve had several close calls that could easily have been accidents.

Let’s all set the right example for our students by showing patience and following the Panther Way every day.
