A Note From Mr. D

Greetings Panther Families!

Whew—what a week we just wrapped up! Tennis, football, assessments, cross country, run club, parent conferences, volleyball, an orchestra concert, a lockdown drill, dance ticket sales (an event all on its own!), and finally our very first dance of the year! And in the middle of all that...just the everyday activity of middle school! Let me tell you, Mr. D is tired—but also completely jazzed. I love being back in a middle school setting where our kids have so many opportunities to get involved. This is where they really start to shine and come in their own, and we love seeing the growth they show.

A huge shoutout to all my 6th-grade parents who sent your kiddo to their very first dance—congratulations! You did it! It always warms my heart (and gives me a good chuckle) to see the excitement and tiny bit of angst that comes with those “firsts.” If they went to the dance, I hope your student—no matter the grade—had an awesome time last night and enjoyed a couple of hours to just let loose and have fun.

I also want to take a moment to send a special THANK YOU to our incredible Pike PTA. Y’all, these parents have poured their hearts and souls into supporting our school, and we are beyond blessed to have them. If you haven’t joined yet, there’s still time! Just visit www.joinpta.org. Whether you participate in person or simply support through your membership, every bit goes right back into serving the students and staff of Pike Middle School.

Looking ahead, next week is shaping up to be another busy one, so be sure to check out the upcoming events. We also have another round of parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday after school. If you’d like to meet with your student’s teacher(s), simply reach out and they’ll be happy to get you scheduled.

Before I sign off, I’d love your help with something important. At Pike—and across Northwest ISD—we focus every day on our core values: Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. This year, we’re putting a special emphasis on respect, especially in student-to-student interactions. We talk about this daily with our kids, but it makes an even bigger impact when it’s reinforced at home. If you can, please take a few moments around the dinner table to talk about what respect looks like and how we can model it at all times. To those families already instilling this in your kiddos—thank you. It doesn’t go unnoticed, and it truly makes a difference.

That’s all for now. I hope you’re enjoying a fantastic weekend. We’ll see you next week—same Panther time, same Panther channel!

Until then....y'all keep on keepin' on, and always KEEP BELIEVING!

Mr. D

Pike Coffee Talk

WHO: Families of Pike Middle School Panthers

WHAT: Chit-chat with campus admin

WHEN: Tuesday, September 30 (9:00 am and 5:30 pm)

WHERE: Pike Cafeteria

WHY: Let's talk Pike!

9:00 AM - In the morning we will have representatives from our NISD team presenting some information about our upcoming operations funding election, as well as having someone from our admin team answer any questions you may have about all things Pike.

5:30 - I will be in the cafeteria to visit and answer any questions you may have about all things Pike. I'll share about how we are doing with IDs, our Core Values, and a day in the life of Pike students.

Student IDs

To encourage students be more RESPONSIBLE with their IDs and to help keep our building SAFE, Pike Middle School will be implementing the following process starting Monday, 9/22:

  • 1st time a student forgets their ID - Name is logged in our system and a temporary ID sticker will be issued.
  • 2nd time - Temporary sticker issued and a detention assigned
  • 3rd time - Temporary sticker issued, new ID printed with $4 added to student's School Cash account, detention assigned
  • 4th time - Temporary sticker issued, new ID printed with $4 added to student's School Cash account, 1 day of ISS assigned

If students need to request a new ID before reaching a third infraction, they can let the teachers at the morning doors know, or they can also submit a request to the CAP Center using the QR code available in every classroom.

NISD Band Showcase

Northwest ISD bands will host a special performance at the district stadium on Monday, September 29, with proceeds benefiting the district’s band programs.

The seventh annual Northwest ISD Band Showcase, sponsored by Bell’s Music Shop, will begin at 7 p.m. at Northwest ISD Stadium. Marching bands from all three comprehensive high schools – Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest – will perform. Also performing will be all seven Northwest ISD middle school band programs. The event will culminate with a combined performance from all district band students.

Gates will open to the public at 6 p.m. for admission. Tickets are just $5, with children ages 3 and younger receiving free admission. Additionally, all district band students who show their student IDs will receive free admission.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate or by clicking here.

Prop A Town Hall Events

Northwest ISD has called an operations funding election, Proposition A, to reduce class sizes, and the district invites questions and feedback on the ballot measure. Voters will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the proposal at several town hall events taking place in the coming weeks.

In-person meetings are scheduled to take place throughout the district in September and October, with an online Facebook Live taking place October 16. A full list of presentations can be seen at www.nisdtx.org/election, with additional town halls being added as they are scheduled.

Early voting will take place October 20 to 31, and Election Day takes place Tuesday, November 4. If approved by voters, the election is projected to generate at least $12 million in new revenue for Northwest ISD. Of that projection, $8 million would go toward lower class sizes and student programs, and $4 million would go toward raises for teachers and support staff.

Spirit Days at Pike

On Thursday, October 2, it's pajama pants day...school appropriate of course!
