Pike Happenings January 3rd-7th

Dear Pike Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back Panther families we had an awesome first day back and day two was equally great! We had the pleasure of welcoming 21 new families to campus with several more expected at a later time.

As the new semester begins we have made a  few changes that  we feel will add an extra layer of support for our Pike Panthers as we continue through the second semester.   Below you will find the changes we have made and shared with the students this week. Thank you parents for your continued support as we  enter the next phase of the school year.

New Procedures/Changes

Hall Pass sign out sheet:

  • Students will be asked to sign in and out when they use a hall pass.
  • This will help teachers be able to monitor and track how often students are out of the classroom and missing valuable instruction time.
  • Detour students from thinking about damaging restrooms.
  • Students are reminded to wait, if they can, until after instructions are given before asking to leave class.
  • Example of  Hall Pass Sheet

Arrival procedure:

  • Students will be asked to wait in designated hallways upon their arrival instead of heading to 1st period M- Th.  Every Friday they will meet in their 1st period classroom.
  • This change will allow students more opportunities to receive small group instruction with their teachers.
  • Teachers will send students an email requesting them to come in for tutorials students can also request.   Students will be asked to show this email to hall monitors as their pass.
  • After basketball season ends in early February, we will utilize the gyms for our holding areas.
  • Breakfast will still be held in the cafeteria.

Make a Plan Monday:

  • Students were reminded that each Monday during advisory they should be sending parents an email with the following information:
  • Current grades.
  • Asking permission to attend before or after school tutorials if needed.
  • Weekly goals.

Saturday School:

  • Once a month we will be offering Saturday school hosted by one of our own Pike teachers.
  • Assistant Principals and Counselors will be working very closely with students and families who may need this type of additional support.
  • This is an opportunity for our students who may be missing several assignments and not able to attend before or after school tutorials to receive academic support.
  • Provides students who are in danger of not receiving credit for high school classes due to  excessive absences  seat time recover. Students can also use before and after school for this time as well.

New Kids on the Block:

  • We started the school year with 3 advisory classes set up as NKOTB.
  •  All new Panthers are placed in one of these advisory classes with our Pike Ambassadors to receive support with Chromebooks, email, Moodle etc.
  • Starting this semester we have a designated table set up in the cafeteria during lunches for all of our new panthers to join if they choose.

Social Media Threat Video:

  • In response to the recent TikTok challenge, Fort Worth School Resource Officers produced a very short video about using social media to make threats against schools. I would like  to share this video with our students next week during our advisory class on Friday.
  • I have included the video link for you to preview.
