Director Biography

forbis

Mr. Forbis is in his 12th year of teaching and 5th year at Pike Middle School. He began his teaching career as an Associate Director in Krum ISD, teaching low brass and percussion at both middle school and high school levels. After one year of assisting both campuses, he took over the head director position at Krum Middle School. Band participation at Krum MS grew tremendously and led to the creation of 3 ability-based ensembles for 7th and 8th graders. While receiving consistent UIL Sweepstakes Awards, the Krum MS Wind Ensemble was named the 2013 TMEA Class C Honor Band and had the privilege to perform at the Texas Music Educators Conference in San Antonio. Along with the Honor Band title, the KMS Wind Ensemble was recognized as the 2012 Class C OPS Concert Selection Winner. This is a competition strictly for C and CC middle schools who feed 1A - 3A high schools.

Mr. Forbis enthusiastically brings this experience to the Pike Band! Our students are learning how to be accountable for their educational growth, musical development, and contribution to a "musical team". Most of all, they are having a blast in the process! The Varsity Band has become a consistent UIL Sweepstakes winner and Mr. Forbis is excited about the student leadership opportunities for the 7th and 8th graders. The Pike Band is the recipient of 3 NEF Grants (Marching to the Beat of Another Wireless DrummerPercussion Protection Plan, and Composers Unite!) and a Texas Music Educators Association music grant. In 2016, Mr. Forbis also received a grant for the Gene Pike Fine Arts Department (Playback: Digital Feedback for Digital Learners) that consisted of digital recording devices to aid student achievement. In 2015, Mr. Forbis was named Gene Pike Middle School Teacher of the Year and a finalist for NISD Secondary Teacher of the Year! The band frequently brings top-notch musicians to share their expertise with the Pike Band members and our goal is to provide a music education that all students (6 - 8) will remember, and cherish, for years to come!

Mr. Forbis holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Music Education from the University of North Texas. While at UNT, Mr. Forbis was fortunate to study under Dr. Darhyl Ramsey, Dr. Donna Emmanuel, Dr. Debbie Rohwer, and Dr. Warren Henry in the music education department. He also studied music composition with Dr. Joseph Klein and Phil Winsor. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the International Trombone Association.

Mr. Forbis is married to Stephanie Forbis and they have been blessed with two wonderful children; Aiden and Riley. In his spare time, Mr. Forbis enjoys playing tennis, listening to and arranging music, hanging out with friends and family, and planning for the future. On a more important note, he is still perfecting his Jedi mind powers and is a huge fan of Chuck Norris, Cookie Monster, and the Hulk!
